5 out of 5 stars The final battle   August 15, 2010

Sixth and final volume in the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series.

If you've not read one then why start with the last one? Get this instead: Scott Pilgrim - Scott's Pilgrim's Precious Little Life: Volume 1

If you've read the series all the way up to this point then you'll be up to speed but there is a handy cast of characters on the inside front cover that reminds you of who everyone is and what they're doing at this point in the story.

Which in most cases is growing up and moving on. The early pages show people getting on with their own lives and letting them develop in directions that take them away from Scott. Whilst he's doing nothing much. Except attempting to follow life advice that he's given. With not entirely expected consequences.

The last of the evil ex boyfriends lurks in the background, initially an offscreen presence but Scott is constantly reminded of him. Will Scott man up and fight him? And will he and Ramona get to live happily ever after as a result?

This runs for almost 256 pages, quite a bit longer than most of the other volumes. But that suits it well because it's exactly as long as it needs to be.

The style of this volume is exactly right. Wild video game styled scenes feel exactly right. The evil ex is a very good character. And there's a lot of explanation for a lot of things. Not least some of the style of the series. Possibly.

With every character getting a good closure to their stories this is an enjoyable read and a fine finale to an entertaining series.

5 out of 5 stars Another great book.   August 21, 2010

If you're looking at this I am assuming you've read the other Scott Pilgrim books and this is just as good as the rest!!!

5 out of 5 stars Everything you ever wanted from Scott Pilgrim   August 21, 2010
J. Kan (Edinburgh, Scotland)
Well, if you're reading this review then you're probably a fan of Scott Pilgrim who hasn't yet got the last instalment to the series. If otherwise, go and buy the 1st book first! This book fulfils all anticipations and hints made in the previous books, still with that awesome sharp, hilarious, and sometimes wacky humour. If anything's wrong, it's that O'Malley wraps up the end too fast, trying to cover all bases to give full closure, but in quite an obvious and abrupt way. Other than that, this is Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour indeed!

5 out of 5 stars Finest Book   August 18, 2010
J. Clewes
You're unlikely to be getting this volume unless you've read the other books, but if you haven't read them, you should... immediately. This finishing volume is brilliant. The artwork of O'Malley has improved greatly and the set pieces are well set up and lead to some truly beautiful splash panels. The story doesn't end as you may have expected either, which is a testament to the storytelling. The characters have grown by this point and you feel quite attached to them, especially some of the more sidelined characters like Stephen Stills.

Finest Hour stays true to all the conventions of the Scott Pilgrim series: retro references, video game logic, unrequited love, kung-fu and one liners. This just elevates the action and leads to a satisfying ending. I think my favourite thing about this volume, though, is you have to question whether or not this is really happening or if it's just in the characters' collective heads.

5 out of 5 stars Scott Pilgrim 6 Review   July 21, 2010

Without divulging into any spoilers, this comic is fantastic. I've enjoyed this series for many years and it's a shame for this to finally come to an end. But it came to an end it spectacular fashion, the artwork has been great all the way through and this volume probably had the best of the lot!

As usual the somedy and action is top notch and Bryan Lee O'Malley has created a comic worthy of being included in any "Top comics" list, a must read for everyone!

It's a comic which doesn't take itself too seriously and matches humour, action and romance perfectly!
